Conques, Belcastel and Najac
Hanging above the Dourdou gorges, Conques enchants visitors with its Sainte-Foy abbey, lauze-stone roofs and sculpted tympanum listed by UNESCO. Belcastel lines up its stone houses along the Aveyron, overlooked by its restored castle. Najac, high on its ridge, stretches its single street towards a spectacular fortress. Three villages to see at least once, ideally together.
Millau Viaduct and gorges
An architectural feat by Norman Foster, the Millau Viaduct crosses the Tarn valley at more than 270 metres high, a world record for a road bridge. The viewpoint offers a dizzying perspective. Just below, the Tarn Gorges can be paddled by canoe in spring. Two experiences that leave a mark and make you want to meet again.
Sauveterre, Estaing, Peyre
Sauveterre-de-Rouergue, a royal bastide, charms with its arcaded square. Estaing, nestled in a bend of the Lot, is dominated by its castle. Peyre, built into the cliff, overlooks the Tarn. On Lyad, Aveyron members share their favourite villages and inns; it is up to you to find someone to follow in their steps.
